Description: Black congregations and directly impacted families comprise a disproportionate number of Americans with underlying health conditions and a frayed safety net. We are more likely to be sick, without health coverage, access to stable housing and protection. Due to historical abuse by health and government systems, we are less likely to receive or trust information communicated through traditional means. Additionally, a digital and technology divide causes our communities to be more susceptible to misinformation and conspiracy theories that contradict science and research. We must begin to develop our own supply chains and information systems to help overcome these barriers or more needless vulnerable black populations will die. The COVID crisis is laying bare our lack of health and community care.
