As Mayor de Blasio’s Mandatory Inclusionary Housing Plan will be voted on in City Council in the next 42 days, faith leaders are coming together to tell the Mayor and City Council that affordable housing only for folks making $51,800/year or more for a family of 4, without safety standards or local hiring, isn’t enough. Although the mayor’s proposal is a step in the right direction, as it stands it will not meet the needs of the low-income communities like East New York, downtown Flushing, East Harlem and Jerome Ave in the Bronx. We don’t need more gentrification – the current plan leaves our communities behind!
